Scottish Asian Sports Gala T20 – Scottish Pakistani vs Scottish Indian organized by Ucare-Foundation Scotland with VIP guest Saeed Ajmal Pakistani Cricket Player

The Ucare Foundation charity match between a Scottish Indian XI and Scottish Pakistani XI took place at Titwood on Sunday (22 June).

With the fine Scottish weather still playing ball, a busy bustling crowd enjoyed a memorable day at Clydesdale Cricket Club.

The showpiece of the day saw the Pakistani Scots bat first, and soon had the scoreboard ticking over thanks to steady knocks by Qasim Sheikh and Moneeb Iqbal, taking the score to 72, before both batsmen were stumped off the bowling of Arun Pillai.

Abassi (31) provided some clean hitting during his innings, much to the delight of the vocal supporters – to help take the score past 100 -before Scotland all-rounder Safyaan Sharif ensured the Pakistan side would finish on 152/6 from their 20 overs.

The Indian side then set about reaching their opponents total. Pillai’s confident batting helped bring up the Indian 50 inside the first 10 overs. It was then down to Gaurav Jathar to compile a composed fifty, together with Indian U19 star, S Iyer, to keep the Scottish Indians up with the rate.

Former Scotland Saltire player Yasir Afafat couldn’t prevent the Indian’s from securing victory in the final over, to allow the Scottish Indian team to lift the Ucare Foundation trophy.

After the match the victorious Indian Scots winning captain, Ricky Bawa, said, “It was a great day for cricket, the community and for charity. It was so encouraging to see such a large crowd turn out to see the best of Scottish Asian cricket on display.

It was a nail-biting game and all credit to the Scottish Indian lads for a terrific successful run chase. “His opposite number, and also event organiser, Sai Majeed said, “Everything which is great about cricket was evident on the day, the weather, the venue, the crowd and an exciting game played by top quality players on a tremendous wicket.

The players thoroughly enjoyed the day and were amazed by the crowd and the atmosphere.

It will be remembered for these reasons, and was a tremendous advert for the community and cricket in Scotland.

It was a tremendous effort from many volunteers on the day and unbelievable commitment from a group of individuals who truly believed they could make this event happen.

I am sure if we had the event again it would be even better next time.

As well as the cricket, the spectators were treated various activities throughout the day, such as pony rides, bouncy castles and stalls, situated around the ground make sure that every age was catered for.
